Universal Studios Mardi Gras Staycation Day 2! | Breakfast at Portofino Bay & Mardi Gras Opening Day

Today's vlog is day 2 of our Universal Orlando Portofino Bay Resort staycation and it's also the opening day of Mardi Gras 2021! We start the day with breakfast in the room and then we head over to Universal Studios. We take the garden walk over to the park and it's beautiful. Then we head in and celebrate Mardi Gras! There were floats, performers & food booths all around the park! It was awesome! We bought the Annual Passholder food sampler lanyard and we got 15 samples for $65 plus tax. We tried food from New Orleans, Trinidad & Tobago, Italy, Canada & Germany. We had so much delicious food and the portions were pretty good too! We really like the way Universal has adapted to the current situation, the performer interactions and the way they're displaying the floats and giving out beads is great! We leave for FL in two weeks. I’m going to take my daughter to the wizarding world, she is the biggest Harry Potter fan now. We are only going for one day I believe. Is there anything you would say to for sure do that most don’t know or forget? We have been once before, but my daughter doesn’t remember. Any tips on things to take home too? Anything food wise to make sure not to miss?? If anyone could help that would be amazing. Thanks I’ve been watching you guys for so many years. You both helped me plan my last trip. Hi jenn you was talking about how you was worried about Jackson not breathing when your in a hotel you can buy a little gadget called snuza hero we have it for our little boy who is on oxygen you clip it on his nappy and if he stops breathing it will alarm and buzz it puts you at ease

Hiii!!!!! so glad to see you guys try the trini food fellow trini here !!! traditionally “chow” is mango with wiri pepper and salt. And pholaurie is pronounced like Poe-lori. and traditionally it’s made with chickpea flour and tumeric and cumin but it can vary :-) the sauce is also usually very spicy and sweet. You guys rock !!!

Oh wow, they really butchered those Belgian fries.... wtf.... we do not have that ridiculous amount of sauce and also the 'Joppiesaus' is not even Belgian....it's frickin' Dutch. :p We just have Mayonaise, Ketchup or Cocktailsauce(that's mayo and ketchup mixed together) usually with our fries. And Belgian stew with it...aaahhhh heaven :) The waffle looked good though... not like in Epcot where they again butcher the Belgian waffles...and the Belgian stew over there. They really need to hire some Belgians over there to get the food RIGHT for once. I volunteer! haha :)

"THROW ME SOMETHING MISTER!!!!" and u can even add "HEY HEY" but "Happy Mardi Gras" is ok since ur in Florida. but to get beads or noticed by the ones throwing cup, trinkets, shirts, and of course BEADS!!! you MUST say "THROW ME SOMETHING MISTER!!!!" and no we dont flash our boobs for cheap rinky dink beads. thats usually what first time Mardi Grassers do when they have drank way too much or sober even who knows..... but definitely not something that we do here in Lafayette! We set up a parade route fenced off and have people set up campers and buses and all kinds of tents kinda like a how they set up for college football tailgating. going gto be greatly missed this year

Owlet sock user over here too! I do think that it can work without WiFi. So you won’t be able to read stats or get alarm notification on your phone without WiFi, but the base would still sound off if baby was in distress. Just thought I’d pass along because I remember that stage and how important the owlet was to us! Love your videos 🥰

FYI that's not how you say or spell muffaletta at least if you're not from New Orleans. Being a New Orleanian muffaletta is really spelled muffuletta. It really should be said like this Muf-ful-la-ta. That's how locals say it around here. Next time you go up to a float to catch some beads say "throw me somethin' mista!"

The third sauce with the Brussels frites is called Joppiesaus. It is actually a sauce that came from my country, The Netherlands. But Belgium are our neighbours and so it flew over to Belgium to eat with their fries as well. Frites is btw the Belgium/French/Dutch word for fries. I love watching your video's for a while now. Hey Tim i really hope this gets to or Jen, but im going to Disney in December and i noticed its not so easy anymore to get to the parks from certain hotels you stay at. So i will be staying at Pop Century and going to Magic Kingdom & Epcot. So can you make a video about all the different ways of Disney transportation now, how its like and ways to get too and from the parks and how to get to Disney Springs. That will be very great. You cover a lot of things but this is one HUGE thing that i believe you missed on covering. Im a little nervous on what's easier to get my family to the different places and if i need to budget my trip for transportation or not. Thank you for all you do, you have been very helpful in other vacations i have taken. Keep up the good work sir. SALUTE!

The blues in that t-shirt look really pretty on you, Jenn. Too bad your room doesn't have a small microwave - that food, and your dinner - probably got a bit cold coming up from downstairs. Very cool that there is (and you have0 a sock like that! That boat, and the pretty gardens and walk, remind me of the area along the Sassagoula by Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside. Love all the Mardi Gras merch - so cool, and love the colors! Wow - those "dead men tell no tales" things - whatever they are - are REALLY cool! I thought the beating hearts at HHN were cool, but these definitely even top those! That beavertail looked REALLY good, my moth is watering right now! That pork schnitzel slider WAS pretty ridiculous on that tiny bun! LOL. That King Gator float is really pretty. Socially distanced hugs from New Jersey to the 3 of you. Hey guys so we are from Trinidad and Tobago (born and raised) and I can tell you that was not pineapple chow that you had. That was just a grilled pineapple as far as I can tell. You can still use the owlet without WiFi! It doesn’t send the stats to the app but if he wears the sock and levels drop the owlet will still notify you. Pretty cool!

Here in Louisiana for Mardi Gras parades we wear shirts that say “throw me something mister” or make signs with a saying to get the people on the floats to throw beads and trinkets to you. So sad that this year all of the parades are cancelled due to covid.

Tip on wifi in Hotels and using devices like the owlet. We travel with a travel router. Configure the router with your home wifi, so all our devices automatically connect. All we do is plug in the power, use a phone to join the travel router to wifi, then everything is already connected and online. We use the GL.iNet GL-AR150. Easy and it works.

We also love our owlet sock! But just so you know the base station can work independently of WiFi you just won’t be able to see the stats on your phone but it will still monitor him and let you know if he is out of range! I know how much comfort our owlet brings me so it goes everywhere with us! Hope this helps!

31:18 Tim it is VERY traditional to put a giant fried pork tenderloin in a teeny tiny bun. Come to Indiana or Ohio or Illinois and get a pork tenderloin... the pork will be as big as a large plate (10" and super thin) and then bun will be a regular hamburger size. It's always an amazing and even shocking ratio but if any other way it would be wrong! I like mine either plain or with mustard and onion, yum!

(And I really dislike it, but ok, not the point for now) Couldn't they find some proper sauces from our neighbours?? For the owlet, we bring ours to hotels and itll connect to the hotel wifi, or you can use it off wifi and wont be able to see the numbers but it will still alarm. I also figured out when we had a power outage since the plug is a usb, I could plug it into my fully charged laptop and could use it all night as well!

The pork is very traditional sandwich from the Midwest, it’s always served twice the size of the bun. We have several places in Southwest Florida with it on the menu too! 😀
