It’s not unheard of for one or more judges to request a different song or additional song. I imagine contestants show up with one or two backup performances ready (strategically the backup songs should be diverse, and if dude is proficient at more than one instrument, tbh, *not* bringing both instruments would’ve been weird.). I’m just speculating tho...

@Lynn Giesbrecht Yeah, a lot overdo it. I realise it’s become part of modern interpretation of songs but man, so many overdo it. Sometimes, I just wish they’d sing the effing song & stop fiddling it with it so much. It can work, used tastefully, to make a song yr own but atm, it’s a bit outta control. Ironically, sopranos in Mozart’s day did the same thing, trying to outdo each other with florid runs & embellishments! 😆

Agree 💯 I think she’s got potential but needs vocal training. She admires Harry, well, he got that smooth vocal line through hard work. If you want to do that genre of music, you need to have control of your instrument. All the vocal embellishments in the world, won’t hide those vocal inadequacies. Regardless of the type of music you sing, you need to learn to protect yr vocal instrument , if you want a long career.

Oh thank god that somebody else felt the same! I honestly can’t stand those runs up & down, I find them annoying actually, and she went beyond even the norm! I’ve been watching A LOT of the Sing Off, other clips of AGT, BGT, etc. that involve singing & tons of videos like this one over the last few months & it has made me think about smtg - WHO exactly decided that repeating parts of a song over & over is the way things should be?!? WHAT exactly would be SO wrong with having songs where each line is different?!?

I didn’t read the title properly & thot they were ALL auditions until they got to Maddie. I just LOVE that a song that is more than 30 years old can STILL have that kind of impact! I also love the song itself, always have, and I wish I had a 100th of her beauty!
