it wasn't the spin rate alone. Cole could have strengthened his grip/forearm. the pine-tar plus talc causes more friction with the air, allowing the ball to either drop more, or move left/right/up/down more.

I have seen a "substance" that does not get sticky until you add friction to it and then it goes smooth after the friction stops. So you will never be able to feel the tacky grip to it just by touching it.

This video has so many holes in it... So much left out. for starters, Gerrrit Cole was throwing a 2 seam-fastball, which every pitcher throws slower than a 4 seamer. Second: batters go on record saying they want pine tar on the ball. they know the pitchers have way more control over it. They actually advocate for it. Notice the only time it's called out is when it's over the top amount of it. that breaks down 99% of this video. You do have a good version for your side though.

You should see what I designed. Nearly undetectable unless you know EXACTLY what to look for. Obviously I haven't actually made something too out there, but it IS nearly undetectable and does increase spin rate, but the problem is that when/if it fails (durability wise) it's crazy obvious. And too many things can happen in an actual game where even attempting to use it would be foolish. I kind of want to tinker with it until I can get it to be durable consistently so it'd be a crazy good invention, but it'd also align me with cheating and that's not exactly what I'd like to be remembered for. So most likely I'll keep working on it to challenge myself, but then once I'm sure it is 100% or as close to it as I can get it to by myself, I'll make a video showing exactly how I came up with the idea, the drafts, the prototypes, and the end product, and it'll probably cause MLB to have a heart attack when they realize I'm likely not the only person to think of this method lol.

When the Yankees gave him that amount of money, I said in a few years they will regret it. Those big contracts never work. Especially today. Not one of those big contracts have ever worked out. Pujols is finally in his last year of that mega deal with the Angels. Machado and Harper deals will get worse in a couple of more years, and this Cole deal will be the same. Mookie Betts will have the same issue in a couple of more years when his body breaks down due to his size. The only huge deal that was worth it is the Fernando Tatis Jr deal since he is only 22. These teams need to stop the mega deals and make the off season exciting again with a free agent frenzy period.
